Blumenthal Leads McMahon by 12 Points

Richard Blumenthal might have Linda McMahon's campaign on the ropes. Quinnipiac University released a poll Tuesday giving the attorney general a 12-point lead over the former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO in the U.S. Senate race. According to the results, 54 percent of likely voters said they would pick Blumenthal, compared to 42 percent who favored McMahon.

"Linda McMahon has tried to raise Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's negatives over the last several weeks, but she hasn't been successful," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz. "He remains popular, but McMahon's own negatives have risen above 50 percent."

Tuesday's poll added one point to Blumenthal's 54-43 lead on Oct. 15. But in this case, more voters said they have made their final decision. Only 3 percent of responders said they were undecided. And of those who named a candidate, only 6 percent said they might change their mind before election day.

The percentage of voters with a favorable opinion of Blumenthal has remained roughly the same over the past few weeks. In Tuesday's poll, 55 percent said they liked Blumenthal, the same percentage as on Sept. 14.

The number of voters with an unfavorable opinion of McMahon, however, has been increasing over the past two months. The poll showed 51 percent with a negative view of McMahon on Tuesday, up from 41 percent on Sept. 14.
