I am writing this letter on the day after International Nurses' Day, and it seems a perfect time to express my great appreciation and admiration for the nurses and other professionals at Wilton'sVisiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County (which, until last year, was known as Nursing & Home Care and Mid-Fairfield Hospice).
A nonprofit community organization, Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County has been providing home health services in Wilton for nearly 90 years, and it continues to be a vital part of our town. In addition to providing Wilton's school nurses, it offers flu shots and community health programs and provides visiting nurses and hospice care to many Wilton residents.
I have had the privilege of serving on the board of directors for about 10 years, and I am currently the chairman of the board. During that time, I have had the good fortune to get to know many of the nurses. The kindness, compassion, skill and dedication that I see in each of these nurses always impress me. I know from personal experience that the care provided by the nurses, home health aides, physical and occupational therapists, social workers and others on the staff has brought great comfort to folks in Wilton.
One of the great things that Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County does for Wilton is to help its seniors remain independent in their own homes as they age. Nurses, home health aides and other caregivers go into the homes of seniors to provide care where they are happiest and most comfortable. A program called Home Telehealth allows an individual to connect with a nurse in a "virtual visit" from his or her own home in "real time." This has given peace of mind to many seniors, who may find it difficult to leave their homes to visit a doctor, particularly in inclement weather.There also is a life care manager who can help seniors and their families manage in-home care of all kinds.
I am proud to be associated with this fine Wilton institution, and I am most grateful to the nurses and other employees of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County for all that they do for our town.
