With the holiday season nearly upon us, Family Centers is looking forward to its 18th annual Hope Lights Lives fund-raiser and is asking Fairfield County residents to participate in its luminary project. The event culminates with the entire county lighting luminaries on Dec. 12. Proceeds will go to the Center for HOPE and the Den for Grieving Kids.
"I've been working on the luminary project for the past five years," said Corinne Chelednik of Hoffman Landscapes in Wilton, "and it's the charity closest to our hearts. I feel honored to be a part of it." Hoffman has been working with Family Centers on the luminary project for over 10 years.
Last year, nearly 5,500 luminary packages were sold, raising about $110,000 in Fairfield County alone. And 500 volunteers pitched in by selling, assembling or delivering luminary kits to people all over the county.
Each kit comes with 12 paper bags, 12 tea light candles and 12 candle holders and can be purchased for $25 from a vendor. The candles are placed inside the bag and lit. They will be displayed on Dec. 12 unless it rains, in which case Dec. 19 has been designated as an alternative day.
