New England weather is extreme at both ends of the seasons, so car owners can expect their battery's life to last about three years, says AAA Southern New England CT. Add the fact that most cars come brimming with electronics that add stress to a battery. According to AAA, the technology --GPS devices, cell phone chargers, to name a couple -- can cause battery failure due to unrelenting demand. If a battery is three years old, it should be tested, and if it's five years old, it should be replaced, states AAA.
AAA Southern New England CT will conduct free battery checks May 7 and 14 at 923 Newfield Ave. in Stamford. No appointments are necessary.
Technicians at the site will conduct a free test of your vehicle's battery, alternator and charging system, and you'll receive a printout if the battery is determined faulty. A new battery can installed on site in about 20 minutes. AAA members can purchase them at a member-only price.
