Need a Windsor Chair? Look No Further!

John Schnefke, owner of the New England Historical Connection in Wilton, has been in business in the same location for over 20 years, supplying high quality reproduction furniture to clients throughout the northeast.

“I started dealing in reproduction furniture to meet the needs of customers whose homes were furnished with genuine antiques, and who were looking for practical every day furniture to complement their beautiful period pieces.  Things like kitchen tables and chairs or chests of drawers that take a lot of wear and tear”, says Schnefke.  Over the years, John has built relationships with craftsmen from all over New England and Pennsylvania.  Among his suppliers are Lawrence Crouse Workshops (early Windsor chairs), D.R. Dimes (tiger maple furniture and Windsor chairs), Adam Mathews (painted chests and tables) and Michael Dreps (18th century American antique reproductions), to name but a few.  If you’re looking for a four-poster bed, a set of Windsor chairs, or a painted folk chest, NEHC is the place to start – and finish.

During his years in business, John has seen trends come and go, and today people are looking more and more for custom furniture.  “I strive to provide my clients with the best possible service, from the design of the piece to the selection of the wood and finish,” he says.  John will go to his customers’ homes and make sure the pieces are the correct dimensions before finalizing construction drawings.  He oversees the whole process, working closely with the craftsman making the furniture to ensure total satisfaction.

A recently completed project was a bathroom renovation.  The clients had their heart set on a reproduction painted chest, so Schnefke had one made to scale for the bathroom and adapted it for a vessel sink which sits on top of the chest.

Thanks to his ‘stable’ of local craftsmen, Schnefke is also the man to go to if you need a piece of furniture repaired or restored.  He will give you a frank appraisal as to the value of your furniture.  And he can also have your lamps repaired and rewired!  One stop shopping!!

The New England Historical Connection is located at 300 Danbury Road, Wilton at the intersection of Routes 33 and 7.  Call them at 203-761-8646.
