Coffee Might Help Reduce Risk of Uterine Cancer

Have another cup of joe. A new study has found that women who drink four or more cups of coffee a day are at reduced risk of endometrial cancer, the most common uterine cancer, according to a study in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

About 46,000 new cases are reported with 8,000 deaths yearly from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. Researchers followed 67,470 women between 34 and 59 at the start of the study, which went from 1980 to 2006. Women recorded dietary details, lifestyle information and medical history.

Scientists found that compared with women who drank less than one cup of coffee a day, those who drank four or more cups had a 25 percent lower risk of endometrial cancer.

Neither decaffeinated coffee nor tea drinking was associated with a risk reduction, and the authors drew no conclusions about whether caffeine or some other ingredient in coffee causes the effect.
