Wings and Wheels Wow on Big Weekend

“Wings and Wheels" is three days of Nirvana for people passionate about aircraft and collector cars. This Memorial Day weekend staple lines up twenty historic aircraft, including five corsairs, ready for review on the ramp at Stratford's Sikorsky Memorial Airport. Astronaut Joe Edwards is also there, at the ready to meet and greet visitors and talk about his training. Space and science demonstrations and rides in a World War II era fighter trainer and free flights with volunteer pilots for kids are also exciting agenda additions. For those who favor wheels over wings, more than 50 pristinely restored vintage automobiles are waiting to be admired on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30, including rare and vintage models of Mercedes-Benz, Packard, Cadillac, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston-Martin, Jaguar, Porsche, Austin Healey, Hudson, Lola, Shelby, Cobra, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and more!On Monday, May 31, most of the wings disappear and post-war cars and specialty vehicles roar onto the ramp. Car clubs exhibit their finest specimens of hot rods, muscle cars, Jeeps, 4x4 and more. CT's Golden Age of Trucking Museum comes barrelling in with its vintage trucks. Kids activities continue and food and exhibit-related merchandise make this a full-up family event. All proceeds benefit The Discovery Museum, which promotes an understanding of science and technology.  "Wings and Wheels" takes place May 29, 30 and 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., rain or shine at Three Wing Flying Services, Sikorsky Memorial Airport, 400 Great Meadow Road, Stratford. Admission is $6 for ages 6 – 12 and $12 for ages 13 and over.  It's free for military with I.D. and half price for groups of twenty or more and Discovery Museum members.
