Meet For Marvelous Music at The Bartlett

The blooming gardens at Stamford's Bartlett Arboretum provide the bucolic backdrop for some seriously lush music Sunday, July 18, when internationally acclaimed violinist Igor Pikayzen performs. A Masters candidate at the Yale School of Music, his concert from 10-11 a.m. is part of the Bartlett's Sunday Morning Classical Music Series.

Pikayzen, who is Russian by birth, was a prodigy who made his official debut at 8, playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 2. In 1999, he moved to the United States. He graduated from Westport's Staples High School in 2005 and went on to study at Julliard. He has also performed as soloist with many orchestras, including the Manhattan Symphony, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. The music might be formal but the setting and ambience are decidedly not: feel free to bring a chair, your coffee, even your Sunday newspaper.

And no matter how you map out the rest of your day, make a beeline back to Bartlett by 5 p.m. for Sunday Evening Pops on the Lawn, with The Away Team, performing their mix of rock, jazz, fusion, rhythm & blues, rockabilly and country.

You'll want that chair again (or, a blanket) a snack and beverage. Then sit back and breathe in the garden aroma and let yourself be swathed in the outdoor surround-sound. Admission is $10. For more information, visit The Bartlett Arboretum's website.
