Fred Astaire Dance Studios Seek Military Veterans For Benefit

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Fred Astaire Dance Studios are calling military veterans and families to the dance floor for a gala scheduled for Nov. 19 at the Omni Hotel in New Haven. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Fisher House in Bristol.

The 19 Fred Astaire Dance Studios in New England are partnering to recognize, honor and give back to some of our country’s veterans. Proceeds benefit Fisher Houses, which provide a place to stay free of charge to military families while their loved one undergoes treatment at a VA medical center.

The gala will feature a silent auction, banquet dinner, general dancing and the “Dancing With Our Heroes” competition. The dance competition will be between military veterans and their professional dance partners and winners will be chosen by celebrity judges and audience voting.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios is looking for heroes to volunteer to participate in this great event. Timothy McFeaters, the New England Fred Astaire Special Projects Liaison, describes as a hero “anyone who is serving or who has served in the military or who has a spouse or family member who is serving or who has served.”

Sixty-two Fred Astaire dance instructors have volunteered their time to participate.

“It will cost the heroes nothing to participate but their time for the dancing lessons and the competition,” explains Karen Green, the Assistant New England Director for Fred Astaire. “Their costumes will be donated and they will each receive a ticket to the Gala for themselves, their dance instructor and a guest.”

The New England Region of Fred Astaire hopes to raise more than $200,000 for the Fisher House through ticket sales, company sponsorships, individual donations, audience voting and proceeds from the silent auction.

Tickets will be $150 and will be available at any of the New England Fred Astaire Dance Studios or through the New England Regional Office.  Visit  www.dancingwithourheroes.com for more information.

To nominate a hero, to volunteer to be one of the competing heroes, to inquire about sponsorships and donations, or to purchase a ticket to the Gala, call the New England Office of Fred Astaire at 860-788-7150 and speak with Timothy McFeaters or Karen Green.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios has locations across Connecticut.  Fred Astaire Dance Studio Norwalk is at 15 Cross Street in Norwalk.
