State Police K9 Officers Patrol Metro-North Trains For New Year's Eve Trips Riders braving the rails on Metro-North on New Year's Eve in Connecticut had some special companions on board, helping to keep them safe.  The Connecticut State Police Mass Transit Unit was on board, too. The troopers, with their canine partners, were riding from Union Station in New Haven to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan — and back — to ensure a safe train trip for everyone on the busy holiday.    "Be sure to keep an eye out for K9 'G' and K9 Jackie, and remember, #SeeSomethingSaySomething," Connecticut State Police ‬said via Twitter.

Frozen: Private Frog Pond In Trumbull Is Open For Skating, Hockey TRUMBULL, Conn. — It might be frigid outside, but there's a positive side to that: The Frog Pond at the Nichols Improvement Association in Trumbull is now open for skating. "The pond is ready!" exclaims a Facebook post from the NIA in Trumbull.  The ice is thick enough on the pond to use it for ice skating and hockey.  "Shoveling to keep the ice clear of snow is appreciated as is taking any garbage with you and keeping the area clean," said a Facebook post. DOT To Add More ‘Grip’ To Merritt Parkway's Sharp Curves In Greenwich GREENWICH, Conn. — In an effort to decrease the number of crashes on the Merritt in Greenwich, the Connecticut Department of Transportation is developing plans for improvements on four sharp curves on the parkway.  The DOT’s Office of Engineering is developing plans to provide "superelevation and roadway friction improvements" to four curves on the parkway to improve safety within these stretches of roadway, DOT said.
