Officers were dispatched to the area of 225 Tokeneke Road just before midnight Saturday after the Uber driver called the police. He said he had been driving four people to an address on Tokeneke Road, and that as he approached it the occupants began to yell at him to turn into the driveway. He said that as he did so, a male passenger in the back seat began to yell at him to slow down, as his dog may be outside. The same passenger then told him to stop immediately so they could get out.
The driver told police that the passenger then reached up to the front of the car, ripped the driver's iPad off its mount, and smacked the right side of the driver's head. The other passengers got out of the car, but the male passenger continued to yell at the driver. The driver said the passenger eventually got out and kicked the car's door, causing damage.
The driver said he was never confrontational with any of the passengers at any time, but the male passenger told police that the driver had been driving aggressively. He said that when the driver turned into the driveway, he sped up, at which point the passenger told him to stop. When everyone got out, the driver began to yell at them from the car, the passenger told police.
The passenger told police that the driver began to get out of the car, so the passenger kicked the door shut because he was afraid.
Police said that while officers were speaking to the passengers, they detected the odor of alcohol on all their breath. The passenger who damaged the door offered to make restitution to the driver, which the driver agreed to. No further police action is expected.
