Darien To Host Classic Car Show on Father's Day

DARIEN, Conn. – What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by taking dad to the seventh annual Darien Collectors' Car Show? The show will feature more than 120 vintage and modern high-performance cars.

Last year’s Best in Show winner was a 1953 C-Type Jaguar. “The C-Type is one of only 12, I believe, which are known to exist today," show organizer Charlie England said. "At the very opposite end of the British roadster spectrum, in 2010 we had a wonderful ’57 MGA Roadster win Best in Show. The MGA had recently been restored to extraordinary detail, which got everyone’s attention.”

The show attracts cars from all over Fairfield County, including seven from Greenwich, 18 from Stamford, 25 from Rowayton ad Norwalk, seven from Westport and six from Wilton and Fairfield. This year, entries from the Caffeine and Carburetors group of New Canaan will also be included.

“We work very hard at including the highest quality cars,” England said. “We get many enthusiastic volunteers from the high school and from Aging in Place + Gallivant, the charity the show supports. We are training Darien High School students on how to judge cars.”

Awards will be given for Best in Show, DHS Best in Show, Best Original car and People’s Choice. The show will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tilley Pond Park, with a rain date of June 24. Admission is $5, and free for children under 6. The Darien Lion’s Club will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers. All proceeds will benefit Aging in Place + Gallivant, a nonprofit which helps Darien seniors remain in their homes.
