High, who has been the sheriff since December 2010, has a lengthy career in law enforcement that dates back to 1969 when he joined the Metropolitan Police Department before eventually making his way to Maryland. Officials said that High began feeling ill and checked himself into the hospital before unexpectedly dying. His cause of death has not been confirmed by the sheriff's office. Woman Escaped Clutch Of Maryland Man Who Tried Raping Her: Sheriff's Office A man from Prince George's County was arrested and charged for attempted first-degree rape, authorities said. Ronald Chester Pearson sexually assaulted a woman in the 2700 block of Kenton Place in Temple Hills on May 2, the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office said. The victim told police Pearson allegedly strangled and physically assaulted her while Pearson was trying to have sex with the victim, the office said. She later escaped and contact police.  Pearson was arrested and charged with multiple sexual assault-related offenses thereafter.
