Rising waters during this week's storm nearly trapped a homeless woman under the Falmouth Bridge, until firefighters came to her aid, officials tell Daily Voice. The individual called 911 at the height of the storm, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, saying the waters were rising and they had nowhere to go, according to Brian J. Dive teams pulled a man from the Anacostia River after his car plunged into the water on Christmas Day. The call came in just before 2 p.m. at the 11th Street bridge, NBC Washington reports. Firefighters Rescue Pooch On The Lam Who Escaped To Tiny Prince William Island
Prince William County firefighters had to rescue a dog after it escaped from animal control earlier this week. The fire department shared photos of a daring water rescue of a chihuahua who got loose from Animal Control and jumped into a pond to escape on Tuesday, July 5. Firefighters jumped into a boat along with animal control workers and captured the pirate pooch after it doggy paddled to a small island a few hundred feet away from the shore. They returned the wet dog to shore without injury.

Illegal Potomac River Swimmers Rescued After Near Drowning: Authorities
Two swimmers clung to rocks in the Potomac River before being rescued by officials earlier this week, authorities say. The swimmers, who were a part of a group of young people, entered the water near Lambert beach, when a strong current swept them away and prevented them from swimming back to shore, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. Swimming in the Potomac River is illegal and dangerous due to the strong currents and debris that lies beneath the surface of the deceptive water. Swimmers may be fined up to $200. Swift Water boats were able to retrieve both swimmers.
