US Army Investigating Metal Canisters Found In DC Park
A pair of metal canisters found in a mound of soil at Washington DC's Fort Totten Park closed the area Wednesday, April 18, officials said. The US Army safely removed the canisters, and will analyze any contents, the US Park Police said in an update Thursday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the park was closed just east of Fort Totten Drive, south of Gallatin Street, and north of Brookland Ave NE/Farragut St. The United States Park Police has blocked off the site, and the NPS urges people to stay out of the area. Unexploded Civil War Shell Removed By Virginia Bomb Disposal Team
An unexploded artillery shell was found at Gettysburg National Military Park on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, according to park officials. The Civil War-era shell was found in the Little Round Top rehabilitation project area, according to an announcement by the park. "We are following National Park Service protocols when unexploded ordnance is found. The 55th Ordnance Disposal Company EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) team from Fort Belvoir VA will remove the shell," park officials said in a statement.
