Berlin, 45, of Parma, MI, made an emergency landing in a field of the 1400 block of Steed Lane in Warren County around 5 p.m., Virginia State Police said. The aircraft landed in a field and struck several trees. Berlin was the only occupant and was not injured. The FAA and NTSB were notified and the incident remains under investigation.

The unidentified person was in the shoulder of the westbound lanes near Exit 176 when they were struck just before 3:40 a.m., Virginia State Police said. The pedestrian died at the scene.
