He didn’t hit the $1.7 billion jackpot in Virginia, but Jeffrey Dimond still walked away with a holiday surprise most people would happily unwrap.
The Spotsylvania County man won $100,000 in the Wednesday, Dec. 24 Powerball drawing after coming within one number of the massive 10-figure jackpot, Lottery officials said.
Dimond matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number in the drawing, narrowly missing the big prize.
That combination normally pays $50,000, but Dimond added the Power Play option for an extra dollar, which doubled the prize to $100,000, officials said.
