: Garfield Woman Killed In Fiery Meadowlands Crash Had 'Song In Her Head And Heart'
Alysha Menzies "always had a song in her head and her heart," a loved one wrote in tribute as word spread that the music tragically and unexpectedly had stopped. Menzies, 27, of Garfield, was driving a sedan that apparently slammed into the back of a flatbed tow truck on westbound Route 3 near Route 120 in East Rutherford shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, May 6, responders said. The flatbed was carrying a Mercedes SUV that fell onto her car, which burst into flames, they said. Standout Special Olympic Athlete From NJ Dies In Philly At 15
Support is pouring in for a Special Olympic athlete based in New Jersey who died at the age of 15 last month. Darius Cheston placed first in the 50-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash in the 2021 Summer Sports finals in Pennington, NJ, according to the Burlington County Special Services School District and a GoFundMe in his name. The track-and-field star "was full of life and determination," GoFundMe organizer Elizabeth Zaremski wrote. Athing Mu is among a half-dozen track and field stars with ties to New Jersey and Pennsylvania who qualified for the Summer Games that begin on July 23.
