Philadelphia Firefighter Brian Conklin Dies After Decade Of Service Brian Conklin, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, died unexpectedly while off-duty on Tuesday, Sept. 26, said colleagues and loved ones.  Conklin most recently served at Ladder 4in the Southwest, PFD said in a statement.  We are deeply saddened at the loss of Firefighter Brian Conklin, who passed away while off-duty on Tuesday. He had served with the PFD for nearly 10 years, most recently at Ladder 4 in SW Philly. On-Duty Firefighter At Crash Struck Dead By Teen Driver In Pennsylvania A 66-year-old firefighter was struck dead by a car driven by a teenager while on duty in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Dec. 6, authorities say. Kurt Keilhofer was on the scene of a separate crash as a first responder with the Mapleton Fire Department when he was hit by the 19-year-old's vehicle in the area of Hares Valley Road and Dell Lane in Union Township, around 7:30 a.m., according to Pennsylvania state police. Captain Joshua Laird, 46, of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, was a 21-year veteran of Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services, he tragically died in hospital after following through the floor of home during a fire, according to the fire company's Facebook page.
