The Dover Township Fire Department, officials overheard a medical call involving a report of an unresponsive man around 5:10 p.m., but the primary ambulance service was out on another call, so firefighters jumped into action.
When crews arrived, they located the man inside a closed garage and he was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After an investigation, crews discovered the man was working on a running car. The firefighters metered the garage and found that there were 1000 parts per million of carbon monoxide in the garage.
The structure was then vented, according to the department.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that has no color or odor which prevents red blood cells from carrying enough oxygen for cells and tissues to live, according to the Center for Disease Control.
