Each year, Neighbor.com ranks US cities on "a variety of publicly available data sets related to charitable giving, generosity, happiness, and well-being of residents, and other factors we think contribute to a city’s overall neighborliness," the company says.

The company asked Americans about their neighborly habits, their relationships with their neighbors, and what they think makes a community most neighborly. Here are some of the things it discovered:

Rising gas prices had people spending more time with  their neighbors and local friends than they used to.

"After enduring more than two brutal years of pandemic conditions and a tumultuous economy, 42.5% of people are more willing than before to help out a neighbor, and 41% are choosing to support small businesses over national chains," the company reports.
