Multiple cars were sent into the water below, bringing the Coast Guard and emergency response teams to the scene along Interstate 695 at approximately 1:30 a.m., when a cargo ship struck a portion of the bridge. Barge Fire Breaks Out In Delaware Bay The Coast Guard and local fire agencies responded to a barge fire approximately 9 miles south of Port Mahon. There were six fire boats from local fire agencies actively fighting the fire. Watchstanders at the Sector Delaware Bay Command Center received a call at approximately 1 a.m. Monday, May 23 reporting a barge on fire in the Delaware River.  The 300-foot barge was purportedly carrying household appliances for scrap.
