Closter Rooftop Burglar Arrested By Nypd: Cops A 40-year-old Westchester County, NY man was arrested in Bergen County, NJ after police linked him to a string of commercial burglaries, they said. Marlon A. Stewart, of Mount Vernon, burglarized three commercial properties from the roof in Closter overnight on Aug. 29, Closter Police Capt. Vincent Aiello said. In one incident, Stewart removed a large safe and threw it out of a second-floor window and into the borough parking lot, Aiello said. Franklin Lakes' Teri Garr From 'Young Frankenstein' Dead At 79 Teri Garr, the New Jersey actress who many knew from "Young Frankenstein," died on Tuesday, Oct. 29. She was 79 years old. According to the New York Times, Garr's publicist, Heidi Schaeffer, said the cause was complications of multiple sclerosis. Garr briefly lived in Franklin Lakes, NJ but her family settled down in Los Angeles, CA. Her father, Eddie Garr, was a vaudeville performer, and her mother, Phyllis, was a model and Rockette. DUI Off-Duty Sergeant Charged In Route 23 Crash That Killed Dad Seeking Better Life: Prosecutor An off-duty police sergeant has been charged in a head-on crash that killed a 55-year-old man on his way to work earlier this month on Route 23 in Morris County, authorities said. Arsonist Charged With Starting Lyndhurst Brush Fire During Critical Time A 27-year-old man has been arrested on accusations he started a brush fire over the weekend while the state was under a Stage 3 fire restriction in Lyndhurst, police said. Man Accused Of Shattering Windshields Of Moving Vehicles On Mahwah Streets Has Prior Arrests Mahwah police have announced the arrest of a man who threw a rock at multiple moving vehicles, shattering and cracking windshields this week. John Yager III, 50, allegedly threw the rock at moving vehicles along Franklin Turnpike, East Ramapo Avenue, and Island Road over the past several months, Mahwah Police Capt. Guido Bussinelli said. All Lanes Of Route 17 Closed By Overturned Construction Equipment In East Rutherford Traffic was halted along Route 17 Tuesday morning, Oct. 29 due to debris that fell off a tractor trailer in East Rutherford. As of 10 a.m., all southbound lanes, south of East Union Avenue, were closed. Traffic cameras show cars backed up in the southbound lanes and what appeared to be overturned construction equipment. Burglar With Forehead Flashlight Wakes Sleeping Homeowner In Palisades Park: Police A sleeping homeowner awoke to a burglar in her home Monday, Oct. 28 in Palisades Park, police said. Officers were called to the home and found the back kitchen sliding glass door had been smashed with a flower pot around 8:20 p.m., Palisades Park police said. The burglar went into the home and upstairs to the second floor, where the homeowner was sleeping.
