Rebecca Bennett, a Democrat and former Navy helicopter pilot, has defeated Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr., following a monthslong absence from Congress, Decision Desk HQ, a leading provider of election results, projected just after 9:45 p.m.
The healthcare executive defeated the two-term incumbent in one of New Jersey's most closely watched congressional races on Tuesday, Nov. 3, leading Kean by more than 53,000 votes with 76% counted as of 9:46 p.m., according to Decision Desk HQ.

Cory Booker Wins Third Full Term In US Senate, AP Says
Democratic U.S. Sen. Cory Booker has won reelection in New Jersey, defeating Republican challenger Justin Murphy in the race for a third full term, according to the Associated Press.
The AP called the race shortly after polls closed Tuesday, Nov. 3, with Booker receiving 82.1% of the vote to Murphy's 13.4%, according to results updated at 8:04 p.m.
Booker had received 40,067 votes compared with Murphy's 6,513, with an estimated 2% of votes counted.
Independent Veronica Fernandez had 1,199 votes, or 2.5%, while Socialist Workers Party candidate Joanne Kuniansky had 999 votes, or 2%.
