Clifford Pendleton, 38, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and related counts, said East Lansdowne Borough Police in a release.
Officers were called to a home on Beverly Avenue for a reported stabbing around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, the department said. They arrived to find an elderly woman suffering from "lacerations" across her head and face, police said.
The victim, who was experiencing "heavy blood loss" and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Emergency Center for treatment, identified her son as her attacker, authorities said.
Later, officers spotted Pendleton driving his mother's stolen car past her house, the department said. When they tried to pull him over, police said the 38-year-old fled.
At the corner of Long Lane and Radbourne Road, Pendleton hit a motorcyclist "causing serious bodily injury," authorities continued. The suspect hopped out and fled on foot but was arrested after a brief chase, East Lansdowne police said.
