From strong schools and health care to high incomes and low crime, several Northeast states are among the best places to live, according to a new study.
WalletHub released its 2026 Best States to Live In list on Monday, Aug. 10. The study ranked all 50 states using 51 measures of livability, from housing affordability and income growth to education, health, quality of life, and safety.

Crash, Dash, Cuffs: Suffolk Driver Busted For DWI After Fleeing Wreck, Cops Say
A drunk driver on Long Island fled the scene after striking another vehicle over the weekend, police said.
Antonio Cubulesian, 46, of Hampton Bays, was involved in an accident near Flanders Road and County Road 105 in Riverhead around 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, the Southampton Town Police Department said.
Police tracked down Cubulesian’s vehicle shortly after the incident and arrested him for DWI, authorities said. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Woman Escapes Domestic Assault On Long Island, Calls 911 From Neighbor’s Home: Police
A Long Island woman made a dramatic escape from an abuser after he shoved her and stole her cellphone on Saturday, Aug. 8, police said.
Ahmed S. Khalil, 54, of Hewlett Neck, was arrested following the attack inside a residence around 2:30 p.m., the Nassau County Police Department said.
Khalil argued with a 50-year-old woman, shoved her to the ground, snatched the victim’s phone from her hands and damaged it, authorities said. The woman, “fearing for her safety,” dashed to a neighbor’s house and called 911, according to Nassau police.
