Hudson Valley Man Charged In Theft, Forgery Of Relative’s Checks

LLOYD, N.Y. -- A Saugerties man was arrested for stealing and forging a relative’s checks, New York State Police said.

The New York State Police – Highland BCI arrested Nikolaus Gastio, 33, on Tuesday, April 12, charging him with two counts of second-degree forgery, a felony, and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, police said.

The arrest concluded an investigation of April 11 into the alleged theft and forgery of a Town of Lloyd resident’s personal bank checks, said police.

Gastio was accused of stealig the personal bank checks of the victim, who was a relative of Gastio, and forging and cashing the checks at a bank in Dutchess County, according to police.

He was arraigned in Town of Lloyd court and sent to Ulster County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond, said police.

Gastio is due in court Thursday, April 14, according to police.
