Students and colleagues are mourning the loss of a beloved high school football coach and personal trainer from the region following his untimely death.
Columbia County resident Michael LaCasse, of Hudson, died Friday, Jan. 19 at the age of 34 following a brief illness, according to his obituary.
LaCasse was a 2007 graduate of Hudson High School, where he developed a passion for athletics, lettering in football, baseball, and track, his memorial said.

A man who graduated from a Northern Westchester high school and was known as a talented athlete who competed at the collegiate level has died at the age of 40.
George Robert “G.R.” Tryon III died peacefully in Ulster County on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Kingston, according to his obituary.
He was a graduate of Ossining High School, where he received 11 varsity letters in baseball, football, and wrestling.
"G.R. was a talented athlete who led an active life," his obituary reads.
He continued wrestling at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor's degree in business.

A Northern Westchester high school basketball player won a gold medal at an event in Israel featuring athletes from around the world.
Justin Price, a junior guard for the Yorktown High School varsity basketball team, was among the estimated 10,000 athletes from 80 countries who took part in the Maccabiah Games in July, the Yorktown Central School District announced on Monday, Aug. 1.

William Christopher, age 57, of Colonie, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 27, surrounded by his family, according to his obituary.

New Haven County resident Ryan Rutledge, age 17, of Southbury, died on Monday, April 5, after his Jeep went off the roadway around 10:35 p.m., and hit a wire rope guardrail, before the vehicle traveled down an embankment and into the Pomperaug River, said the Southbury Police.
Both Rutledge, and his passenger, were ejected from the vehicle and found in the Pomperaug River.

Zachary Thomas Chmelecki, of Rye Neck, died on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
He was 23.
Zack was born Oct. 13, 1997, to Charles and Lisa (nee Zaccaria) Chmelecki.
A football and lacrosse player, he played for Iona Prep and later Rye Neck High School where he graduated in 2015.
Later in his life, he was passionate about surfing, fishing, and cooking.
