Drunk Driver With Gun In Pants Nabbed In Hudson Valley Stop, Police Say
A man from the region was found with a .357 Desert Eagle in the front of his pants during a traffic stop by state police in the Hudson Valley.
Ulster County resident Jason Lynch, age 44, of the town of Lloyd, was stopped around 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 4 in a 2014 Lexus IS in the city of Newburgh.
According to Trooper Steven Nevel, while troopers were speaking to Lynch, they learned that his license was suspended, and he seemed to be impaired by alcohol.

The family of a missing Hudson Valley woman who hasn't been seen in more than a week is pleading with the public for help finding her.
Nicole Brown, of Orange County, went missing on Wednesday, Nov. 30 in the Monroe/Blooming Grove area, said Domingo Ramos, the founder of Hope Alive, an organization that helps search for missing people.
Brown, age 45, is a traveling nurse who is well-known throughout the area and is well-liked, said Ramos.
Being missing is very unusual for Brown who has children and is married, Ramos said. Her family is desperate to have her home.

The New York State Department of Transportation is warning motorists of the upcoming single-lane closure while crews perform construction activities, weather permitting, on Route 17.

These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018
Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary.
During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year.
Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.

Large Brush Fire Breaks Out In Orange County
A least a dozen fire companies have responded to a large brush fire on Lodge Mountain in Orange County that spread quickly with building winds.
The fire started Thursday afternoon, April 4, near 10 Estybrook Trail, on the mountain, said the Mountain Lodge Park Fire Company.
The department said the fire was "very large."
There was no word if homes were in the line of the fire.

Man Sentenced For Fatally Shooting Brother In Hudson Valley
A man who admitted intentionally killing his brother in the Hudson Valley has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the crime.
George Bawn, 38, of Blooming Grove, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown in connection with the shooting death of his brother, James Bawn, 35, on Feb. 6, at Mountain Lodge Park, in the Town of Blooming Grove, according to the Orange County State Attorney's Office.
Bawn had pleaded guilty in September to the murder that took place during a domestic dispute at his home, the DA's office said.

Aide To Sen. Larkin Quits Over Domestic Violence Charge
An aide to state Sen. Bill Larkin, R-C-Cornwall-on Hudson, resigned Tuesday from his job in the wake of a felony domestic violence indictment.
"Today Senator Larkin accepted Robert Nickol's resignation effective immediately," Larkin’s spokesman, Brian Maher, said on Tuesday.
Nickol, 32, of Albany, was indicted last week on felony counts of second-degree strangulation, second-degree assault and a misdemeanor assault count. He was released without bail.
