Rye Basketball Team Relishes Playing In County Center Despite First Loss
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Rye High School’s varsity boys basketball team savored the chance to play in the Westchester County Center on Wednesday, despite falling to Eastchester High School 43-30 in a battle of unbeatens and to 4-1 on the season. The contest took place before the Westchester Knicks’ own game, and several players, including newly acquired former BYU star Jimmer Fredette, could be seen watching the tail end of the high school game from the stage area. $41.5 Million School Renovations Rejected In Port Chester, Rye
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Voters in the Port Chester/Rye Union Free School District shot down a school renovations plan worth $41.5 million on Tuesday. The district-wide referendum’s result, with 655 in favor and 994 against, likely came as a surprise to school district officials seeking more funding for a growing school district. Student enrollment in the district has grown by over 20 percent in the past seven years and forecasts to continue upwards. VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Archbishop Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan honed in on the message of redemption while visiting Westchester County jail, where he held a holiday Mass service on Monday. Lakeland Student Charged After Cafeteria Fight
SHRUB OAK, N.Y. – A 14-year-old student at Lakeland High School was arrested and charged with third-degree-attempted-assault on Tuesday after a recent altercation inside the school cafeteria, according to the Yorktown Police Department. At 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, police said the Jefferson Valley resident allegedly punched the victim repeatedly. The student, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was issued a Juvenile Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear at the Department of Probation on Jan. 5.
