Nearly two years after a man was stabbed to death at a Long Island motel, his killer formally confessed.
Philip Walker, 58, of Mastic, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the death of Jimmy Vaughn.
Walker and Vaughn, 63, were both living in a group home at the Shirley Motel on Montauk Highway when emergency crews were called to the motel for a stabbing on June 30, 2023.

An 11-year-old Texas girl has died by suicide after classmates bullied her for being Hispanic and threatened to have ICE agents deport her family, according to reports.
Jocelynn Rojo Carranza of Gainesville, TX, died on Saturday, Feb. 8, five days after she was rushed to a hospital, Univision 23 reported. She was a student at Gainesville Intermediate School, about an hour north of Dallas.

Walmart To Lay Off, Relocate Over 800 Workers, Report Says
Over 800 employees across three Walmart regional facilities may face layoffs, according to a new report.
The affected locations include Hoboken, New Jersey, with 481 employees; Charlotte, North Carolina, with 267; and San Bruno, California, with 79, according to Supermarket News, which said some of the workers may choose to relocate in the weeks ahead.
While the offices in Hoboken and San Bruno will remain open, the Charlotte office is set to close, the outlet reported.

A Suffolk County employee is facing felony charges after allegedly accepting bribes and falsifying government documents in exchange for cash, prosecutors said.
Brianna Hassett, 33, of Wading River, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 13, and charged with multiple felonies, including bribe receiving and falsifying business records, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.
