Man Injures Long Island Employee During Robbery: Police

A 42-year-old man has been arrested after he injured an employee while robbing a Long Island store, police said.

William Alston, a 42-year-old Hempstead man, was arrested after he allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven for a lighter, injuring an employee in the process.

The Uniondale incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 22, according to Nassau County Police.

At approximately 2 a.m., 42-year-old William Alston of Hempstead walked into a 7-Eleven located at 644 Jerusalem Avenue.

He allegedly walked behind the counter, snagging a cigarette lighter before trying to leave the store.

A 49-year-old employee tried to stop Alston but was shoved to the ground, injuring the employee’s face.

Alston was nonetheless nabbed at the store and charged with robbery and assault, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hempstead’s First District Court on Monday, Jan. 22.
