The Uniondale incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 22, according to Nassau County Police.
At approximately 2 a.m., 42-year-old William Alston of Hempstead walked into a 7-Eleven located at 644 Jerusalem Avenue.
He allegedly walked behind the counter, snagging a cigarette lighter before trying to leave the store.
A 49-year-old employee tried to stop Alston but was shoved to the ground, injuring the employee’s face.
Alston was nonetheless nabbed at the store and charged with robbery and assault, police said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hempstead’s First District Court on Monday, Jan. 22.
