It currently has around 1,425 stores nationwide. The company announced on Monday, Sept. 9 that it will sell its assets to an affiliate of private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. In announcing initial store closures late in late July, Big Lots said a bankruptcy filing could be coming. The nationwide chain announced in June that it would close 40 stores following dismal sales and rising costs, but in a new filing last week, the company said it may need to shutter nearly 300 locations — several of them in the Northeast.  Big Lots announced in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, Aug. 2, that under an updated term sheet, the company would need to close 20 percent of its 1,392 stores — about 290 in all.  Here are some of the local closures. Sonic is reportedly opening its newest restaurant in the Nutmeg State, with road signs announcing that the popular drive-in is heading to the Route 7 Travel Plaza in New Milford. The restaurant will revive the building on the corner of Route 7 and Still River Road, which has been vacant for years. The area is also expected to include a new Sunoco gas station. Man Jumps To His Death Off Bridge On I-84 A man is dead after jumping off an I-84 bridge, closing part of the highway. The incident took place around 8 a.m., Thursday, May 9, in Manchester, Connecticut, said a Connecticut State Police spokesperson. Interstate 84 is closed westbound to 1-292 to allow for an investigation, they added. The body was found alongside the highway between Exits 58 and 59. Man Killed After Motorboat Capsizes In Candlewood Lake A 48-year-old man was killed after he was dumped into Candlewood Lake in Brookfield when the 17-foot-boat he was in capsized. Gary Hayes of East Hartford was killed around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, another man, Joseph Miranda, 29, of Manchester, survived, said Chris Collibee, spokesman for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. According to Collibee, after the boat capsized, Miranda, swam to shore to safety. Hayes was located in the water by EnCon police officers who responded to the scene.
