A Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol in Mahopac at approximately 6:45 p.m. on June 10 when a traffic stop was conducted near the intersection of Route 6 and 6N for a motorist that had a loud muffler.

During the subsequent stop, the deputy determined that the driver, 38-year-old Mahopac resident Edgard Perez was allegedly intoxicated. Perez was arrested for driving while intoxicated and booked at the Sheriff’s Headquarters in Carmel, where he was released on $200 bail.

Perez was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated, which the Sheriff’s Office noted could be punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Perez is due back in Carmel Town Justice Court later this year.
