A Long Island man has been sentenced for the 2018 murder of a 30-year-old.
On Oct. 19, 2018, at approximately 10:55 a.m., victim Demetrius Winfield was exiting his vehicle, on break from his job, in front of a home on Wellesley Street in Hempstead, the Nassau County District Attorney's Office said.
Winfield and a friend were then shot by Jamik Cannon, age 28, of Hempstead, and his co-conspirator Brian Marshall-Gibson, according to authorities, who said that Cannon and Marshall-Gibson fired at least 15 shots in 14 seconds.

A Long Island man has been convicted of murdering a 30-year-old acquaintance in a 2018 daytime shooting, the District Attorney announced.
Following a nearly two-week trial, Jamik Cannon, age 28, of Hempstead, was convicted by a jury for his role in the fatal shooting of Demetrius Winfield in October 2018.
Specifically, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that Cannon was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Cannon’s trial began on Monday, May 3, and the conviction was announced on Friday, May 14.

One person was killed and three others were hospitalized in a single-vehicle Long Island crash.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 29 on the westbound Southern State Parkway in Hempstead, between exits 18 and 17.
An investigation revealed the vehicle involved was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver tried to change lanes but lost control, according to state police.

A Long Island man faces life in prison after admitting to fatally shooting a man and attempting to murder a second person during a midday incident in 2018.
South Floral Park resident Brian Marshall-Gibson, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon after an incident in Hempstead two years ago, District Attorney Madeline Singas announced.
