More than a year of agonizing uncertainty has come to a tragic end for the family of a New York native thought to have been taken hostage during the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Omer Neutra, from Long Island’s Plainview, was killed during the attacks that claimed the lives of another 1,200 men, women, and children, the Israeli government confirmed Monday, Dec. 2.

16-Year-Old Caught With Fully-Loaded Gun, Driving Unlawfully On Long Island, Police Say
A Long Island teen was arrested for possessing a fully-loaded firearm, as well as multiple traffic violations.
The Williston Park teenager, age 16, was pulled over shortly before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, for numerous traffic infractions while driving west on Hillside Avenue near Willis Avenue, Nassau County Police said.
When prompted to exit the vehicle, officers reportedly noticed a bulge in the teen's jacket pocket, which led to further investigation. Officers recovered a fully-loaded, defaced, 9-millimeter firearm.

One Killed In Long Island Expressway Crash In Suffolk County
Police are investigating a fatal overnight crash on the Long Island Expressway.
It happened around 7:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 in Islandia.
Carlo M. Guercia, 46, of Massapequa, was on foot in the HOV lane of the westbound expressway, near exit 58, when he was struck by a 2019 Honda Odyssey, Suffolk County Police said.
Guercia was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, according to police.
The driver of the Honda, a 41-year-old Williston Park man, was not injured.

The flames tore through Churrasqueira Bairrada in Mineola, sending smoke and flames billowing into the air on Saturday, Dec. 21, officials said.
