Student Caught With Loaded Gun At High School In Suffolk County A teenager was apprehended after authorities say he brought a gun to his school on Long Island. The 14-year-old at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach was being interviewed by a school administrator on an unrelated matter when the student was found to have a loaded gun.  School officials contacted police early Friday afternoon, Oct. 18. The incident happened at around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, in Shirley, near William Floyd Parkway and Rugby Drive. Suffolk County Police detectives determined that Daniel Johnston, age 32, of Shirley, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of William Floyd Parkway when he crashed into a pole and fence. An East Patchogue resident found a glass bottle on the beach at Bellport Bay which contained a note, according to the article. The note reportedly had a Dec. 1, 1972 message that it was a science experiment of students of William Floyd High School learning about Fire Island currents, said ABC 7.
