Meteor Shower To Take Center Stage At Long Island Beaches
The Perseids Meteor Shower will be a prime-time attraction at several Long Island beaches. Four Long Island State Parks will remain open during the nighttime hours for viewing of the Perseids Meteor Shower on the evening of Monday, Aug. 12, according to the New York State Park Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Bacteria Counts Caused Closure
Wildwood State Park in Wading River has reopened to swimmers following a one-day prohibition due to high bacteria counts. The park was closed to bathing Wednesday, July 17, according to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. On Thursday, July 19 park officials said conditions have improved so that state standards for beach water quality are being met and current conditions at the beach are satisfactory for swimming. Swimming is currently prohibited at Wildwood State Park in Wading River due to high bacteria counts park officials have announced. This prohibition is a precautionary step to assure the protection of the health and safety of the park's swimmers, says the notice.
