Man Caught By Cops While Committing Violent Robbery Near Long Island Business, Police Say
A man was caught in the act by officers while he was committing a violent robbery in the parking lot of a Long Island business, police say.
It happened on Saturday, Feb. 29 just after 1:30 a.m. in Central Islip.
Third Precinct officers on a routine patrol in an unmarked police vehicle observed Jerry McKoy, 54, of Central Islip, striking Elias Ortiz-Campos, 44, of Central Islip, during a robbery in the parking lot of Laundry Palace, located at 18 E. Suffolk Ave., Suffolk County Police said.
The officers intervened and arrested McKoy.

A suspect is at large after a man and woman were stabbed during a robbery at a Long Island residence.
It happened on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3:20 a.m. in Uniondale.
Nassau County Police Department officers responded to a call on Hempstead Boulevard for a possible stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers entered through an open side door and found a 42-year-old man with multiple stab wounds, said police.
As officers began to render aid to the victim, another victim, a 44-year-old woman, was found, also with stab wounds, according to police.

The assault took place around 12:02 a.m., Friday, Oct. 25, said the Nassau County Police.
