Drivers ID'd In Crash That Caused Chain-Reaction, Hours-Long LI Expressway Closure
Officials have released the names of two of the five people injured, one seriously, in a five-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County.
The crash took place around 7 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, near Commack, closing the highway for several hours, Suffolk County Police.
According to police, the crash occurred when Lonnie Garrett, 63, of Coram, was driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander westbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of exit 53, and his vehicle rear-ended a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by Eduardo Turcios, 67, of Westbury.

A 22-year-old Long Island man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle overnight.
It happened on Saturday, Nov. 2 at approximately 10:20 p.m. in Farmingville.
Robert Milano, 47, of Selden, was driving a 2017 Toyota Prius eastbound on Horseblock Road, near Waverly Avenue, when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking in the road, Suffolk County Police said.
The victim, Daniel Fehringer, of Farmingville, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Milano was not injured.

Long Island Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car
A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car on Long Island.
It happened on Monday, Oct. 28 just after 9:15 p.m. in East Islip.
John Dempsey, 60, of West Islip, was crossing Carleton Avenue eastbound, just south of Jefferson Street, when he was struck by a southbound 2002 Toyota Corolla, according to Suffolk County Police.
Dempsey was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, Joseph Ladonna, 51, of East Islip, was not injured.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Jeep On Long Island
A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a Jeep on Long Island.
It happened at approximately 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in Melville.
David Vilaca, 26, of Melville, was crossing Route 110 from west to east, near Fletcher Place, against the light when he was struck by the 2016 Jeep Renegade, Suffolk County Police said.
Vilaca was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for the treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, Bradley Zucker, 22, of West Babylon, and a female passenger were not injured.
