ID Released For Man Struck, Killed Along With Dog After Being Hit By Jeep On Long Island
The identity has been released of a man killed, along with his dog, after both were hit by a Jeep on a busy Long Island roadway.
It happened around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 8 in Massapequa.
While attempting to cross Merrick Road southbound, the 30-year-old man, now identified as Matthew Elder, of Massapequa, and the dog were struck by a 2003 Jeep that was traveling westbound on Merrick Road, Nassau County Police said.
The crash occurred just west of Forrest Avenue.
The operator of the Jeep, a 72-year-old man, remained at the scene, according to police.

Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car In Front Of His Long Island Home
A Long Island man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in front of his house overnight, according to police.
John P. Jones, age 55, was in the roadway in front of the home in Selden, located on Dare Road, when he was struck by a northbound 2016 Hyundai sedan at approximately 9:45 p.m. Saturday, March 20, Suffolk County Police said.
Jones was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai, Christa Henselder, age 79, of Selden, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Long Island Mom Dies From Injuries After Crash With Drunk Driver
A Long Island mom has died from injuries sustained in a crash in which the driver of the other vehicle was intoxicated, police said.
The crash happened just after 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 in Farmingville.
Erika Bautista, 31, of Farmingville, and her three daughters were inside a northbound 2015 Honda, which had become disabled in the right lane of County Route 83, north of South Bicycle Path, Suffolk County Police said.
The car was then struck in the rear by a 2018 Jeep being driven by Chris Montpetit, 36, of Shirley, according to police.
