Damaging Wind Gusts Knock Out Power To Thousands Of Long Islanders
Thousands of Long Islanders lost power as wind gusts reaching upwards of 65 mph sent power lines flying.
As of 2:35 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, PSEG Long Island was reporting 293 active outages, impacting 5,327 of their 1,161,746 customers.
In Nassau County, 2,611 customers were impacted, while 2,609 customers in Suffolk County lost power.
North Hempstead (1,171 outages) and Islip (1,070) were the hardest hit in each county. There were more than 100 customers without power in Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Huntington, Smithtown, Southampton, and Southold.
