Husband, Wife From Oakdale Killed After 2-Boat Crash In Great South Bay
A woman was killed and the body of her missing husband was later recovered following an overnight two-boat crash in the Great South Bay.
A 27-foot 1989 OC/MA boat, operated by Louis Deritis, age 53, of Oakdale, collided with a 44-foot 1989 Henriques Sport Fisherman near Fire Island north of Ocean Bay Park, between North Channel and Range Channel, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, according to Suffolk County Police.

Woman In Distress Swimming Rescued From Long Island Sound
Emergency responders rescued a woman who was in distress while swimming in the Long Island Sound.
The incident happened early Sunday morning, July 18 in Suffolk County, off Shoreham Beach in Shoreham.
A woman called 911 to report that her friend, Johanna Scheiber, 21, of Sayville, was swimming in the sound and the caller, who was on Shoreham Beach, lost sight of Scheiber at approximately 6:50 a.m.

An investigation is underway surrounding the deaths of two men reported missing who were later found dead in the Long Island Sound.
Police said the bodies were found Wednesday, June 2 at around 6 a.m. in Suffolk County, off Eatons Neck.
Roberto Guevarra, age 36, and Roberto Murillo, age 60, both of Huntington Station, were reported missing at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 after they failed to return from a fishing trip in the Long Island Sound, Suffolk County Police said.

A mother and daughter who were blown offshore while kayaking on the Long Island Sound were rescued by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers.
Noreen McLoughlin, 54, and her daughter Dana, 19, departed from Sunken Meadow Beach to kayak on the Long Island Sound on Friday, July 19 at approximately 8 p.m., Suffolk County Police said.
Once offshore and after darkness fell, they found the wind was too strong and they were having difficulty paddling their 13-foot kayak back to shore, according to police.

A father and son stranded in a boat on Bellport Bay were rescued by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers.
Jake Laznovsky, 32, of Mastic, and his father, Jim Laznovsky, 62, of Lindenhurst, were operating a 25-foot 1993 Cougar Cat in Bellport Bay the night of Thursday, May 16. Around 6 p.m., they say the craft ran aground inside of the New Inlet.
