Homeowners Impacted By Suffolk Co. Flooding Could Get Up To $50K In Repair Grants; Here's How
Help is on the way for Long Island homeowners who were impacted by severe flooding. Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a disaster emergency for Suffolk County on Friday, Aug. 23, following this week’s record rainfall that resulted in major flooding to homes and businesses, and washed out several roads. Hochul’s office also announced that impacted homeowners may be eligible for grants of up to $50,000 to fund or reimburse certain qualifying health and safety related repairs not covered by insurance or other relief programs. A former congressional candidate in New York is accused of illegally funding her campaign. A Long Island man has been accused of possessing child pornography. Following tips from the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Suffolk County Police Digital Forensics Unit detectives launched an investigation into the suspect from Deer Park. At least six homes were heavily damaged and roads were washed out following a powerful storm system that brought drenching rain and widespread flooding to parts of New York and Connecticut. Online Tip Leads To Child Porn Arrest Of Suffolk County Man
A Long Island man has been accused of possessing child porn. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation began the probe based on a cyber tip generated by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program. Full Closure Set For Portion Of Sunrise Highway In Suffolk County
Upcoming road work could spell delays for Long Island drivers. In Suffolk County, the eastbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27) will close in the town of Brookhaven from 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, until 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. The closures will take place between exit 57S and Exit 58 while crews remove an overhead sign structure, the Department of Transportation said. A case of mistaken identity led to a husband and father being gunned down in the backyard of his Long Island home, prosecutors said. Police Recover $49K Taken From Bay Shore Resident In Scam
Police recovered nearly $50,000 that was taken from a Long Island man in a scam earlier this week. An 89-year-old Melville resident called a number he found on the Internet on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at approximately 1:30 p.m. to help him with a computer password problem.
