Geek Squad Scammer Stole Over $55K From Long Island Victims: Police
A 21-year-old scam artist from Queens was arrested after police uncovered that he had tricked tens of thousands of dollars out of two people on Long Island.
Jarnail Singh, age 21, of South Ozone Park, Queens, started his scam by posing as a member of the Geek Squad, the Best Buy tech service team, Suffolk County Police announced on Friday, Feb. 2.
A 77-year-old Amityville man received an email from Singh, claiming the victim had a $399 charge.

Boyfriend Of Missing New York Woman Has Disappeared, Police Say
The parents of a man who has been declared a “person of interest” in the disappearance of a New York woman missing for weeks told police they hadn’t seen him in days, a police spokesman said.
Long Island native Brian Laundrie, age 23, now of North Port, Florida, the boyfriend of Gabby Petito of Blue Point, in Suffolk County has not been seen since Tuesday, Sept. 14, said police.
According to the North Port Police, detectives went to the home of Laundrie on Friday, Sept. 17, after his parents summoned them to their home.

Here Comes Elsa: Tropical Storm Will Bring Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds To Region
Tropical Storm Watches have been upgraded to Tropical Storm Warnings along parts of the East Coast as Elsa treks toward the Northeast.
It will arrive in this region starting overnight Thursday, July 8, and bring tropical-storm conditions to portions of New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, mainly along and near the coast, into Friday, July 9. The storm will be out of the area by around midday Friday.
Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible, including the possibility of flash flooding, though the fast-forward movement of the storm is expected to prevent widespread flooding.

Suffolk County Among Top Areas In State For Deer-Vehicle Crashes, AAA Says
Areas of New York, including on Long Island, are experiencing record numbers of deer-vehicle collisions, according to AAA Northeast.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation, an average of 65,000 deer-related accidents take place within the state per year, a majority taking place during the animal's mating season in October through November.
In 2019, 1,415 accidents caused by deer in Suffolk County, the third-most in the state.
