A Long Island man was arrested in connection with eight business burglaries, as well as shoplifting and assaulting a police officer.
Jesus Mendoza, 21, of Greenport, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 6, by Southold Police in Greenport in connection with eight different cases that were being investigated by the detectives which span the past several months, said Southold Police.

Two people were arrested following a single-vehicle crash on Long Island -- one for DWI and the other for spitting in a police officer's face during their arrest.
Stephanie Caicedo, 25, of Orient, and Jesus Mendoza, 21, of Greenport, were arrested around 12:29 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, after Southold Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on route 25, in the area of Tuckers Lane, police said.

The body of a missing Long Island teen was recovered in Peconic Bay overnight, the Coast Guard announced late Sunday morning, Jan. 3, according to the Coast Coast.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound personnel received a report from the Riverhead Police Department at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 that the teen, Raistlin Ruther, departed Jamesport, at 8 a.m. Saturday in a blue kayak and did not return.

Long Island Man, 22, Seriously Injured When Mercedes Crashes Into Two Pseg Poles, Police Say
A Long Island man was seriously injured his Mercedes crashed into two poles.
Liam Tomin, 22, of Southold, was injured around 11:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, during the crash on Route 25 in Southold, said the Southold Police.
According to police, Tomin was driving the 2004 Mercedes-Benz eastbound in the area of 64755 Route 25 when his vehicle left the roadway and collided with two PSEG poles.
Tomin was ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Greenport Fire Department with serious injuries.

A Long Island man was arrested in connection with a high-speed pursuit that seriously injured a police officer.
On Thursday, April 2, Suffolk County Sheriff's deputies were conducting a narcotics investigation in the Middle Island area when they spotted a man matching the description of a suspect wanted for a high-speed pursuit in Southold and Riverhead on Tuesday, March 31, that badly injured a Riverhead Town police officer, said Suffolk County Sheriff's Chief Michael P. Suffolk Man Charged With Assault Of Person Walking In Front Of His Home
A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking a man who was walking in front of his Long Island residence.
Kelvin Euceda, of Greenport, was arrested around 11:49 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, following the attack on Front Street, said the Southold Police.
According to police, the victim, a 35-year-old male, was walking on the sidewalk on Front Street and was attacked by Euceda, police said.
Euceda struck the man several times in the face and head area with a closed fist, causing the victim to have a swollen left eye as well as his front tooth partially dislodged, police said.
