A Long Island man admitted to strangling a woman to death in a car and leaving her body by a dumpster, authorities announced.
Andrew Avila, age 26, pleaded guilty to the charges against him on Tuesday, March 2, according to the Nassau County District Attorney, over a year after the Valentine’s Day death of Rebecca Carlson, age 39.

Melissa Beltre, a 42-year-old South Hempstead woman, faced her arraignment for her alleged scam on Thursday, March 14, the Nassau County District Attorney announced.

A Long Island man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 39-year-old woman who was found lying next to a dumpster.
Andrew D. Avila, age 25, of Elmont, was charged on Thursday, March 2, for killing Rebecca Carlson, age 39, of Hempstead whose body was found on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in South Hempstead, said the Nassau County Police.

ID Released For 28-Year-Old Killed In Long Island Crash
The identity has been released of a 28-year-old motorcyclist killed in an overnight Long Island crash.
The crash happened at 8:50 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, in South Hempstead.
According to detectives, a 2019 white Acura sedan traveling westbound on Village Avenue was struck by a 2009 Gold Honda motorcycle traveling north on Grand Avenue, Nassau County Police said.
The motorcyclist, now ID'd as Sherif Wheeler, of Baldwin, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
The driver of the Acura, a 28-year-old woman, was uninjured, police said.
