Man Drowns At Long Island Beach Police are investigating the drowning death of a man that happened at a Long Island beach overnight. Two men who were swimming in the water at Smith Point Beach in Shirley were struck by a large wave just before 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, Suffolk County Police said.  One of the men made it back to the shore and the other was pulled out into the water. Members of the United States Coast Guard and members of the Mastic Beach Fire Department pulled the victim from the water. At about 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, a woman used four counterfeit $100 bills to purchase gift cards at a CVS in Shirley,  The Suffolk County Police Department reported. Police said the CVS is located at 964 Montauk Highway. Authorities are offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Long Island Woman Critically Injured While Cutting Down Tree A woman was critically injured while cutting down a tree outside her Long Island home. The incident happened around 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, in Shirley. Tanya Pirro, age 44, was on a ladder, cutting down a tree outside her residence on Carnation Drive when the tree snapped and she fell off the ladder, Suffolk County Police said.
