Long Island Man Driving Twice The Speed Limit Charged With DWI, Sheriff Says
A man driving more than double the posted speed limit was allegedly drunk when he was stopped on Long Island, authorities announced.
Suffolk County Sheriff’s deputies stopped Stony Brook resident Vernon Lewis, 55, shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, when he was spotted driving 80 mph in a posted 40 mph zone on Route 111 in Brentwood.
According to Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, during the speeding stop, deputies determined that Lewis was potentially intoxicated, and he was taken into custody.

Man Crossing Busy Long Island Intersection Struck, Killed By Car
A man crossing a busy Long Island intersection was killed after being struck by a car overnight.
It happened Wednesday, Jan. 1 at approximately 1:40 a.m. in Brentwood.
Kevin Bonilla, 19, of Brentwood, was driving a 2009 Infiniti sedan southbound on Route 111, near Lemon Street, when the vehicle struck the man who was crossing Route 111 eastbound on foot, Suffolk County Police said.
The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

A Medford teen was indicted on a list of new charges for allegedly injuring a Suffolk County police officer in a hit-and-run and for another crash the next day.
