Suffolk Legislators Vote To OK Extending Red-Light Camera Program Suffolk County lawmakers voted to extend the much-maligned red-light camera program through 2024. Legislators voted 11-7 on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to extend the program for five more years. The vote came after hours of public comments - most of which were contentious - disparaging the cameras. According to reports, red-light cameras may generate upwards of $20 million annually through the program, which has been in effect since 2010.
